ZAK&CHARLOTTEstudio

With the aim of transforming performance art and theatre through a blend of physical and virtual workflows, Zak and Charlotte explore how movement can influence a hybrid stage. Driven by themes of existentialism and memory, they work together to visualise and make the “intangible” immersive. Balancing between research-based systemic design and performance-through-play approach, they collaborate to produce unique and highly adaptive pieces of experimental theatre.

(Portraits Of My) Holocene Holiday

(Portraits of my) Holocene Holiday is a notation and production system for mixed-reality performance art.

It records and documents elements such as physical, virtual and hybrid props, physical and motion-capture performers, as well as lighting and sound. With this workflow, performers, visual artists, sound designers, and digital animators can work together throughout the creative process to create multidimensional performances that seamlessly blend various artistic elements.

Focusing on human intimacy in a time of environmental collapse, several interactable virtual environments provided a playing field for performers to experiment within. By capturing the movements of actors and translating them into real-time digital representations, this research project enables artists to interact with fantastical elements.
